Sheridan Business Students Excel with Fastenal Partnership

Sheridan College’s Pilon School of Business (PSB) is empowering students through a partnership with Fastenal, a Fortune 500 industrial solutions company. This collaboration provides real-world experience and job opportunities, bridging academia and industry.

At the Intercollegiate STAR Sales Competition at Durham College, Sheridan students Alan Switas and Hannah Braz shone, winning a cash prize and a trip to Fastenal’s Corporate Expo in Nashville. Switas, undeterred by a simulated rejection, secured a “deal” by highlighting his product’s value, a skill honed by Professor Anish Bhandari’s mentorship. Their custom vending machine prototype for Fastenal further showcased their preparation.

For three years, Fastenal representatives have visited Bhandari’s professional selling class each semester, sharing sales strategies and scouting talent. “We help students optimize resumes and develop skills while seeking motivated individuals,” says Emma Carrique, Fastenal’s Regional Recruiter. The partnership has led to part-time roles for PSB students, with four, including Switas and Braz, securing full-time jobs post-graduation. “I started my full-time job the Monday after my last class,” Switas said, crediting Sheridan and Fastenal.

The program equips students with practical skills and direct career pathways. “Students learn what it takes for B2B sales jobs, while Fastenal hires talent groomed by Sheridan,” Bhandari noted. Sheridan’s two-year Business diploma blends foundational and specialized training, preparing students for success. Learn more at Sheridan’s Business program page.
