Program Overview

The Early Childhood Education program combines theory and coursework with real experience in the field. Students will learn the importance of play in children’s learning, family involvement, and curriculum design. Graduates will be qualified to work in a variety of jobs including child care centers, early learning, and family centers.

Career Prospects
Career paths include child care centers, kindergartens, community family centers, hospital health centers or special children’s education centers.

Professional Certification
Graduates of the program can apply for certification by the Ontario Association of Early Childhood Educators. This certification requires students to provide a complete resume and pass their certification exam. Students in the program are required to join the Early Childhood Educators Institute after graduation and prior to working as an early childhood educator.
They are required to join the Academy of Early Childhood Educators (www.college-ece.ca) on file after graduation and prior to working as early childhood educators

The program will provide all of the skills needed for a career in early childhood education and will incorporate a hands-on experience curriculum to shape and prepare professional early childhood educators. Students in the program will enhance their knowledge and expertise in child development in a diverse range of child education courses (including the roles and responsibilities of early childhood educators and the importance of play settings in children’s learning), leading to a greater understanding of early childhood education as a professional field. Graduates of the program will have the knowledge and skills necessary to work with children, families, and communities, and will have an in-depth understanding of learning and developmental planning for children ages 0-12. Students will practice in a variety of settings, including child care centers, early learning and family centers, and preschools, providing a solid foundation for future careers in the early childhood education industry.

Admission Requirements

OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH:
– Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U)
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE)
OR
Human Services Foundation Ontario College Certificate AND:
– standing in the required course stated above
OR
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED)
OR
Mature Applicant with standing in the required course stated above
