New Westminster, BC – December 13, 2025 – As the Winter 2026 semester approaches, Douglas College Library’s Learning Centre is rolling out a series of free workshops designed to equip students with essential study skills, academic strategies, and English language tools. These interactive sessions, led by experienced instructors, staff, and English Language Learning Specialists, aim to help students thrive amid the demands of higher education.
The program features three core categories: Learning Centre Basics, focusing on foundational skills like active reading and note-taking; Skills for Academic Success, covering time management and exam prep; and English Language Workshops, targeting speaking, listening, and public speaking for multilingual learners.
Kicking off the season is the “Tutor Tips! Study Strategies for Your First Semester” on January 12, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in Classroom N4215 on the New Westminster Campus. Peer tutors will share insights on study schedules and instructor communication, complete with a prize draw. Bi-weekly Conversation Tables begin January 23 online, running through March 20, fostering casual English practice every Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Other highlights include the Basics series in early January, tackling topics from Canadian academic life to GenAI tools, and English sessions on January 19, February 23, and March 23. Academic Success workshops span January 27 to April 2, blending in-person and virtual formats.
