Program Overview

Fanshawe’s Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) – Accounting is a four-year honors undergraduate degree that provides you with a number of valuable and transferable skills, including financial accounting, cost accounting, management accounting, corporate finance, auditing and taxation. Course content also covers a variety of general business management concepts, such as business strategy, marketing and human resources.

This program meets the requirements of all accounting professional bodies and is closely aligned with the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) qualification requirements.

You may also have the knowledge required to apply for industry certification and qualify for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certificate issued by the Project Management Institute. Professional certification usually requires two or more years of relevant work experience or an exam after completing your studies.

This program comes with a four-month co-op internship program, during which you will apply what you have learned in class, build industry connections, and gain valuable practical experience working in a variety of organizations. Co-op work semester opportunities include:

Accounting staff: responsible for reviewing and auditing financial statements, calculating cash flow and preparing personal and corporate tax returns.

Finance Assistant: Responsible for handling various accounting related tasks and assisting with special projects.

Accounting Assistant: Participates in and assists with month-end processes such as account reconciliations, journal entries, account reconciliations, and report preparation.
