Douglas College Honors Trailblazers at 2026 Student Leadership Awards

NEW WESTMINSTER – Douglas College officially celebrated its top campus change-makers at the annual 2026 Student Leadership Awards. The ceremony recognized a select group of students, faculty, and staff for their dedication, resilience, and outstanding community contributions.

Four students captured the premier Student Leader Award. Afreen Gill, a Psychiatric Nursing student and outreach president, was praised for expanding local healthcare initiatives. Accounting student Brandon Chou was recognized for transforming from an unengaged freshman into a passionate campus advocate. Communications major Kia Ferrer earned her award through extensive volunteering across key departments, while International Supply Chain Management student Mai Kieu was honored for mentoring new international students.

The Up and Coming Student Leader Award highlighted rising stars Kimia Motamedi (Sport Science) and Vijayta Thakur (Accounting). Both were celebrated for leading new student orientations and providing crucial peer support during cultural adjustments.
